3D Mario Games
The 3D Mario games were the last style of games to be released, but that did not stop their success. The 3D games are normally the highest rated, and best selling of the Mario games. There have only been 7 3D games released. That is because these games take more work to be put in to make them work so they can't be made as fast as the 2D games. One reason it takes longer is just how it controls. In the 2D games you can only move two ways, and the level is just 2D. While with these games Mario can move in any direction, and the level designers must build a whole 3D environment for Mario to be able to run around in. The 3D games have you end their levels by collecting a star, or a moon. Some of the games you enter individual levels to find the star, and some of the games place many of the stars around one massive level for the player to run around and find them.
3D Mario games also have a wide variety of gameplay styles, basically every game uses its own unique changes. There are some games that use the same powerup system as the 2D games, and just happen to do them in 3D. In Super Mario Odyssey you can use your hat to capture enemies, which turns Mario into them. By turning into them it gives Mario new abilities that the enemy would have, which helps you find moons to beat the game. There are also some 3D games that do not give Mario any special powers, they just have Mario himself having to beat the level. In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario gets a jetpack to help him get around.
